My Dad told me an interesting story. When he was shopping for a car in 1985 or so, he cross-shopped the Chrysler Conquest and the Isuzu Impulse. Build quality wise, the Isuzu was utter, utter crap, so he went with the Conquest.
Said Conquest was a Conquest Technica; a narrow-body, non-intercooled version that came before the Conquest TSi in 1986 (with the fender flares and the intercooler). Partially due to the whole “non-intercooled” bit, my Dad blew two turbos and ended up punching through the cylinder 2/3 wall in an overboost condition over the 5 or so years he had the car...the first turbo blew so early it was replaced under warranty. He then bought a Toyota Celica.
